Many spiritual people I have talked to have their own, personal ways of connecting with God. Their individual gifts and passions seem to play a role in how He speaks to them.
This is certainly true for me. I have always been a music person and feel most like myself while singing a great song.
I connect with Him this way, too. Turn up a Christian song that speaks to me and I start to feel a burning sensation in my chest. For me, this has always been how I *feel* God. It doesn't take much before my arms are in the air and tears come from my eyes. This is certainly a sight to see -- but for me, it becomes a moment between God and me and I try to forget about other people if they are around. Because that moment really isn't about them -- I am connecting with my God and He is with me.
I have also found that holding tangible objects, such as a small cross, a nail or a rosary, helps me as I speak to Him. A being I cannot see who is all-encompassing and bigger than this world can feel far away at times, but holding an object brings Him to me and helps me focus on what I need to say to Him.
Of course, reading my Bible is how I am able to learn about and understand Him better. But these are ways in which I know I can always find and connect with Him.
How about you? What helps you connect to God?
