I have been on a journey to find stillness in order to hear God. I have sought answers to my life's challenges and that exploration goes beyond the constructs of any one religion or belief.
Here are some of my favorite ways to find stillness to hear God:
Go out in nature - one of the easiest ways to connect with God is to remove the clutter and noise and go to a place that feels holy for you. For me that is near water or a walk in the woods. You can also get your hands dirty with gardening or other mind clearing activities in nature. The point is to stop thinking and channel your attention in a way that clears and stills your mind.
Meditate - meditation is one of the best ways to connect to a higher power because at its core it is about calming and clearing the mind. I found it hard to still my typically anxious mind and found great resources on YouTube and searching for the kinds of meditations that made me feel comfortable. There is no perfect way, the important part is being in a place and position that is going to allow you to be comfortable and quiet your mind for a period of time.
Go to church - finding a church where you feel comfortable being yourself is important. Find a spot by yourself and cozy in to listen and let God. I find if I ask God a big question and go to church it is almost always answered by the pastor in the readings or sermon for the week.
These are my favorite ways to find stillness.
How do you find stillness in order to hear from God?
